RESEARCH

To get the best out my clients website i needed to understand the basics of designing a proper website for an actual client. For the starters i am going to look at the basic way of designing a website and the most important things you need to do.

The website i am using to design the website is ' Wix'.

Every business will have different informational needs when it comes to their website content. However, there are also some “core” pages most sites should always include, and these are a great place to start.

Home page on website

This is the first thing visitors see when they land on your website, so make it count.
You’ll want to include the most important information at the top  . This area typically includes your company’s logo and navigation bar, and a quick paragraph or tagline that describes who you are and what you have to offer. what i plan to do on my home page is to have a structured layout , a task bar at the top , and plenty of galleries , this is because

WHAT YOU  NEED ON A FOOD WEBSITE :

typography

The typography for a food website needs to compliment your food, without overshadowing it. You can draw inspiration from restaurant menus, cookbooks or handwritten recipes. In this case i need to make sure i speak about how ' indulgent' the cheese is.

Content

The content always matters. Once the readers have had a look and feel of your website, they seek what value you can add to their knowledge or how your content feeds their interests.
Always keep your content light, fun, easy and simple – so as to catch their attention and keep them hooked. You can have some fun with the name of the dishes or the recipes you add to your blogs.
Photography
The eyes lay first on the food and the staple of every food website is a combination of brilliant photography and amazing photo-editing skills.
No matter what your product, it needs to look delectable, fresh, and pretty. Food photography is an art that every food brand needs to master.

Brand Colour

A color isn’t just a shade it’s also an emotion. The colors you choose make people feel certain ways. You can be bold and inspiring, heated and passionate, or cool and innovative, all through the colors you decide on.

When it comes to aesthetics, food companies tend to go for bright colors. They’re exciting, clear, and can encourage impulse purchases. Yellows, reds and oranges are all associated with indulgent food, while greens and blues typically express health and vitality. however after reviewing the website which is available for the Norfolk Cheese Company it has quite a distinctive and unique colour which i like , it brings a sense of warmth to the website which i will heavily contain in the new one.

Product Imagery

Your product images are a customer’s first point of contact with your food – and first impressions count!  This can help make your food jump off your web page and into a customer view. The noroflk cheese company have so many photos to hand i can use , showing the customers what you sell will draw them in , i am going to use many photos in the website , but not too much so it is annoying.

REVIEWING WEBSITES

The site would  appeal to the average  person  because  the colours are warm and inviting.  When I first  entered the site I could tell that a lot of thought had gone into  making it an  excellent  one- I can tell that it has been worked on for a while and has been polished until the
creator  was  satisfied , this is what i want to do for my website , not exploding in your face , not to look too minimalist but look modern and fresh.   Someone  with no  technical  background  can easily see all this. The layout makes you feel very  comfortable,  especially  the boxed-in idea of the pages.  The soft and warm colours and  minimum  text on the main  page are  great ,  a big  chunk of text on the  main  page always dazzles the reader out, which is not what you want.

The  design is very  fitting  for the sites  purpose,   the boxed-in  layout makes you feel  comfortable.  The graphics are kept to a minimum which is good because the  load-time is cut down significantly.  The  mouse-over  idea you have  with the  links on the left hand side is good, except the  mouse-over  image doesn't really go
with the flow of the site.  A black  shadow  is a nice  idea,  but they could doing something like making the text on the buttons light up in a warm shade, or make the shadow a different, softer colour. For the cheese website i will consistently create a colour theme because it creates a sense of consistency

The site is mostly easy to  navigate,  except the links seem to be all over the  place a bit- on the main page  there  are more  links on the left hand side than  there are on the rest of the  pages this as well could weird out the customer , for my website i will have links but not loads , this website has a lot of clickable links which could be misleading. . They need  to keep it  consistent.  On the main page  there  are  links on the  left, the right, the bottom,  and the top.  I thought that the  boxed-in  thing was good, but this is a bit too much.  It is  confusing  for the reader to have to search the first page to find what they are looking  for.  The sitemap is an  excellent  idea for any site, but I suggest you put the link in a more obvious place, like with the navigation bar perhaps.

The main  colours are  perfect,  they are very warm and  inviting.  The contents of the pages flows very well, and all of the  writing is very well  done and easy to read.  Once  again  you can tell  that a lot of heart has gone into this site.
The design is mostly  consistent  except for the changes in the fonts- on the main page the font for the middle section is Times while on the About Us page  the  font is quite boring.  The  load  time is very fast,  which I know  everyone  appreciates!  I did not find any typos,

FOOD WEBSITE REVIEW

https://sustainabletable.org.au/
if you want to learn about sustainable agriculture then  this website is the best it is  a website packed full of helpful information about making sure the food you eat is sustainable and how you can get involved in the "food movement."  Best of all, the site is organised exceptionally well and is one of the most easily navigable sites out there therefore it is easily find able.  The information posted also includes footnotes linking readers to critical studies and documents, and Grace Communications has created some novel guides for the site - like the one dedicated to hosting a "sustainable dinner party."
what i would like to see on this website is not only Sustainable Table, but all of these sites - and more work together better.  The Food Tank's data base and news updates would complement the Sustainable Table site, while the cooking sites should have more information about how to make food not only nutritious, but also sustainable.  the storytelling  could be better served by linking personal narrative with the helpful and well informed papers created by the Grace Foundation and Food Tank.

SEA OF THIEVES WEBSITE REVIEW

This is the last of the random website reviews , the reason why i have reviewed these websites is because i need to drip feed information off the websites to then mold into the way i want mine.
The sea of thieves homepage is incredibly inviting , the colour theme is consistent and this is what i want to do with mine like i have said before. The game is based off pirates and the font sticks with that theme.

The task-bar has good links to the pages as well. You can clearly see what the website is trying to show from the task bar. Mine will look very similar in terms with the links available , i will have store and about which this website has. What i like about the website the most is that its interesting to look at. I want this to be like mine , i think every websites want it to be inviting but applying this needs effort and care which you can quite clearly see  has occurred in this sea of thieves website.
It contains a lot of photos which benefits to that idea of aesthetically pleasing as its not just walls of text like some websites are.

As you can see the first thing you see when you open up the page is a picture and a bold text with the logo. I want a picture the first thing you see as you enter the website. I think its key , you need to know the customers understand  instantly what your business is about , despite the fact the answer is in the name of the company product imagery is vital. I will try and import a gallery into mine as the opening page , not loads of photos but a little gallery to give the customers an idea of what the Norfolk cheese company is about.

the website contains so much information and gives a clear view to the customers on what is it about which is what i want to to do in my website. The consistent colour theme in this website is exactly what i want to imply in mine. colour punches the body of the website page forward and keeps the focus on the website itself.

here is a clip of the website :

THE NORFOLK CHEESE COMPANY WEBSITE

Reviewing the website i am going to be designing seems key , mainly because i need to understand what i need to put in place to make sure the new one seems fresh and up to date. As i said before the website i am building is a mock for the future. This is what the client wants and i will build around that.

First of all the homepage opens up and you see a photo of a selection of cheeses, as i stated in my sea of thieves review I want to open up with a gallery of photos of cheese , I like the photo chosen as it gives a range of knowledge to the audience of what the company sells. However there is no task bar due to it being one whole page. Therefore the customer feels as if there is not much to show.

The website is very modern and ideal for the company where its at at this current stage however it just seems a little bland in terms for aesthetics. there is a wall of text which a majority of customers wouldn't read , they want to be drawn towards the website.  But like i said before the website looks really modern and fresh , i need to make sure i implement this , into mine.
